FYI ( a rock song ) When I said, “for your information” you thought I was being snarky but I was trying to be helpful in the shortest way I knew when you said “clarify the motive” you said, I was being nosy you thought I was acting pushy Have i really crossed that line ? Chorus: because i just do not understand how to talk to you everything I say, gets turned around and misconstrued it’s in one ear and turned upside down you are the strangest neighbor in this whole town when i say “hey man, how you doing?” and you say, “how is that your business?” and I say, “man, I’m just your neighbor”. and you say “stop harassing me”. I say “up” and you hear “go” I say “hi” and you say no, no, no! (Thanks John & Paul) Why did you say it like that? like what? like that.

I did it right You dressed in white And on that day You walked away Satellite, am I to blame Satellite, do you see the same As she does I ponder why Was it a lie There was no sign You were never mine Satellite, am I to blame Satellite, do you see the same As she does The love we had Must've been in my head Was it ever real Did you even feel Satellite, am I to blame Satellite, do you see the same As she does

it's mid october and taxes are due the sky takes on a different hue my mind recedes into the day-to-day but I'm brought back by you It's late in autumn and groceries are thin laid off from another job again my mind looks to the weeks ahead feel the fears of weaker men and life goes on it's another christmas and I look to the skies no hope for joy or any more lies no man in the sky to rain down peace cannot look in my children's eyes It's a new year and hope abounds this sinking ship has run aground clear the decks of the worries and frets we have found solid land, we're all safe and sound and life goes on we never know what the future holds we can only read as the pages unfold a story is made richer by conflict and strife to tell the tale to the teller too tall to be told Take the reins my boy, this story is your own with your boundless future, your seeds yet sown take nothing for granted, leave no stone unturned keep your mind on the edge, let life be the hone for life goes on
4.
We were building a ship We finished on a red skied morning With Old wood from old trees fastened tight Out To claim old seas With 2 captains, no crew We both knew what we were getting into The boat would capsize if we weren't in tune We've come a long way Through stormy, trouble seas Days with no wind And nights below freezing Come tomorrow, the sun will rise over the horizon Spreading light across the silence We were sailing a ship We landed on a red skied night A strange land in midst of Littered with remains of other ships With 2 captains, no crew We both knew what we were getting into A new home, a fresh start, is finally in veiw We've come a long way Through stormy, troubled seas Days with no wind And nights below freezing Come tomorrow, the sun will rise over the horizon Spreading light across the silence
5.
Walking backwards everyday Wondering if the past is gone Why do they run away? Why won't the moments hold on? *Chorus* He's yesterday man He's yesterday man You can't understand The yesterday man He wants so badly To hold on to his youth When he was not so weary Or so long in the tooth *Chorus* *Bridge* You know it goes by so quickly Oh, it's gone so fast Wake up one morning And your best days are past *Chorus*
6.
I cannot open my windows, but I can see the sun my pace may have slowed, but my heart can still run away from the stillness and same thing each day up into the heavens, up and free from its sway free from its sway free from its sway I cannot read the fine print, but I can hear the song my step may have slowed, but my pace is still strong away from the hurry, and the loss in the fray up above the worries, up and free from your sway free from its sway free from its sway don't hold on tighter rather let it all free don't squeeze until the life's gone rather, set it all free free from its sway free from its sway
7.
I hope that you don't mind But I have added another heart 'Cause mine is breaking when yours is breaking And my soul stumbles in the dark And every little inch of me is being pulled apart And I might fade away I might run in place I know it's now your turn And I am willing to step aside From the good times & the bad times And the ones that will remind Me of the part of my intention I was having trouble finding Before I fade away Before I run in place Before the weather trips & turns The ocean on its head Until the ups & downs can quench The secret storms instead And when the life & times are filled with Nothing but fear & dread You will run in place You will fade away We'll tighten the locks & wash the walls With the colors of the sun The aftershocks & bitter cold have only just begun We take our marks but we won't wait For the sound of the starting gun And we will run in place But we won't fade away
8.
Change is not so easy, But usually for me, Excited for the opportunity Also feeling anxious, nervous and free What is in the future, well that I guess we'll see All gonna be alright All gonna be alright Say it tonight say it one more time 2x What's next? For us? Used to be so fearless never had a care Confident the path I take would get me there Still that same old kid at heart But lots of things have changed Never felt this questioning uncertainty All gonna be ok All gonna be ok Say it in the morning Say it all day! Middle: Hold my breath No take a breath Know we are in a good place haven't got there yet Hold tight Just might And hugs will always make it alright!

I was a half mile gone and a long-night’s lost Walking down the road out of town I smoked a shot-up cigar, I thought about my old car I wondered where I lost my crown I mighta seen a better hour if that bottle were full or even if it held a drop but I’ll swear it went this way, til my dying day unless you got better to swap never can find you anywhere that I might roam one step closer and a thousand miles farther from home I couldn’t tell you when the sound of that sweet summer breeze took a little harmony a third of whistles and shouts, a fifth of whiskey and stout and a rumbling bass, sound like the sea I saw a little stir of something like a firefly buzzing Grew into a halo of sparks out on the cold green horizon, I could feel my blood arising like the Bigfoot left by the Ark must be my fault, yeah something in my chromosomes one step closer and a thousand miles farther from home and as I got a little closer I got lost in the brush caught up in the coppice and bramble some kind of tent show, freak flow, couldn’t trust my eyes crazy kind of midnight ramble Suddenly I knew I’d never wanted anything the way I had to catch up with you whatever strange kind of cirque, I'm the world’s biggest jerk if I couldn’t make the rendezvous can’t get that taste gone sweeter than a honeycomb one step closer and a thousand miles farther from home when I woke up next morning all covered in dust stinking like a bottle of gin there was an aching in my gut and a limp in my strut for what must’ve been original sin and I don’t ‘spose I’m ever gonna see it’s like again I’ll just keep on wandering high and low with memories of that ghostly greatest show on earth and dreaming of the afterglow never can find you anywhere that I might roam one step closer and a thousand miles farther from home

Your picture is still on my wall Still in my mind and still in my song I dreamed of paralysis while you were walking away I came apart after we both turned the key Before we were born I was learning to tie my shoe strings But I fell asleep before learning to keep you awake So I started doing math with an Abacus and I'm still counting back, back to the present tense back when the wheels would turn, and the water ran When I was sick to death, but our life was grand You looked your best in those ragged old shirts and new shoes when you locked all of your sunday best in those old dusty drawers I can't remember when I ever wanted you more And as the sun went down, with my head a mess I met the Montagues and cursed the Capulets and as I took the wheel all the blood was shed so we just raised our glass and we drank to death guess we missed our mark when taking a stand you took your place behind the marching band I won the lottery but my money's spend Now I'm just digging dirt, and I'm soaking wet You marched the capital screaming of politics I threw it all away with my innocence The end of Dialysis was a fucking mess

You eye the stars above for plans that glow Some astral calendar made long ago But when they fail to show Please know that you don't know For what was a day before we did run What was it before the sun Ellipsed around the milky way, And we basked in it once in a day The time is ending soon you say you read Just like those yesterdays you were misled Reality is wrong Keep following along For what was a day before we did run What was it before the sun Ellipsed around the milky way, And we basked in it once in a day

about

DD's assignment:

"I think that many of us realize that lyrics are the songwriting element that get most overlooked in this club, since we’re always under the gun. This week, I’d like to focus on them. I’d like for everyone to begin the process with lyrics alone. I want you to write your lyrics - or at least a first (or second or third) draft - and post them to the Bandcamp page BEFORE you start writing the song itself. Ideally, I’d love for everyone to put in some good time writing and rewriting, and then put in the kind of minimal time on composition and recording that we usually put in on lyric writing, later in the week. Everything else is up for grabs."
