6 am, morning comes Smile at the day I put my head down And run Busy days, turn to months Watching my crew getting older Having fun Say what you want Think what you will Too busy to keep... Sit still, slow down Afterschool, end in sight Friday’s the day that we treasure Movie night Weekend comes, time to sleep? Not so fast, check the calendar And weep (just kidding) Take it all in Most days we go But some days we can...

Tell me about the first book that took your mind Do you still think about it from time to time Does it every once in a while creep into your dreams Guiding your mind to the person that you want to be Is the smoke in your eyes Do you think you might choke Shuffling around the pit To avoid the smoke Do you believe in coincidence Superstition and happenstance Say Rabbit rabbit rabbit And the smoke goes away Do you say it up the chimney on the first of every month do you lift up your feet when you’re driving over railroad tracks do you duck under Willow’s as you pass underneath When you’re walking on the sidewalk Do step over the cracks Is the smoke in your eyes Do you think you might choke Shuffling around the pit To avoid the smoke Do you believe in coincidence Superstition and happenstance Say Rabbit rabbit rabbit And the smoke goes away Sometimes I disappear way down in a hole Come out in a frame of mind Nobody knows I’ve been visiting friends that no ones ever met I’m learning all the rules So I can understand and forget Is the smoke in your eyes Do you think you might choke Shuffling around the pit To avoid the smoke Do you believe in coincidence Superstition and happenstance Say Rabbit rabbit rabbit And the smoke goes away

I learned long ago to hold my breath for every midnight storm, the dawn still breaks you swore that to part was worse than death but now you just ain't giving what it takes maybe you think we've been here before you think you've grown tired of this duet I saw your eyes searching for the door but I don't think you're done with me just yet 'cause when I hear your angel voice how I need to hear that sound and if it's all the same to you I'd just as soon keep you around met an old man, smiling at his love she still had him underneath her sway asked him what's the trick, push comes to shove he said, "we just fight most every day" everybody's got their own advice how to make their love not fade away but there's no secret flavor in the spice just dig your heels and go to work each day 'cause when I hear your angel voice how I need to hear that sound and if it's all the same to you I'd just as soon keep you around

Tweet that you’re self-made, tweet that you’re smart Tell us all about your deals tell us all about the art- It doesn’t matter if any of it’s true and you can tweet that too Then get yourself a car and drive it like you stole it, and get yourself a life and live it like you know it could be over in an instant, even if you’re innocent So you might as well be guilt of something, Yea you might as well be taken cause the world ain’t givin’ nothing You might as well quit caring whether you’re a good person, cause the rest of the world is cut-pursing’ And we all assume you got some sort of scam that you’re running, so you might as well be guilty of something, yeah guilty of something cheat on your taxes, cheat on your wife Tell em that you’re poor, tell her she’s the love of your life Then ask yourself ‘what would JC do?’ Then cheat him too Then get yourself a car and drive it like you stole it, and get yourself a life and live it like you know it could be over in an instant, even if you’re instant So you might as well be guilt of something, Yea you might as well be taken cause the world ain’t givin’ nothing You might as well quit caring whether you’re a good person, cause the rest of the world is cut-pursing’ And we all assume you got some sort of scam that you’re running, so you might as well be guilty of Fraud against the American people Who hold these truths that all men are equal And there’s red on our flag But these colors are stunning So you might as well be guilty of something Now get yourself a car and drive it like you stole it, and get yourself a life and live it like you know it could be over in an instant, even if you’re instant So you might as well be guilt of something, Yea you might as well be taken cause the world ain’t givin’ nothing You might as well quit caring whether you’re a good person, cause the rest of the world is cut-pursing’ And we all assume you got some sort of scam that you’re running, so you might as well be guilty of something, be guilty of something Mmhmm

about

Some of you have probably heard about our weekend, but here’s the short story, if you missed it: We started our VSS Tom Waits tour on Friday night in Johnson City (Mitchell Snow is our “Tom”). 5 songs into the show, Mitchell collapsed onstage, suffering a major coronary incident. According to paramedics, he actually died for a moment. He went through a procedure today, and they found 4 blockages, including a 99% percent blockage in the “widow-maker” artery. They were able to correct everything, and his prognosis is good.

Despite all of this, Mitchell managed to prepare a new assignment for you:

“‘I just died in your arms tonight ...'

I died this weekend. Write a song about what you guys did this weekend.”

Never let it be said that he ever lost his sense of humor …
